HOW TO CHOOSE SAFETY SIGNS/INFO LABELS

WARNING SIGNS (Yellow Background/Black Text):

This type of sign or label are used to warn of hazards or a hazardous condition that is not likely to be life-threatening. The hazard symbols are depicted in a triangle.

DANGER SIGNS (White Background/Black Text for Message/Danger – White Text in a Red Oval on Black Background):

This type of sign or label provides a warning when a hazard or a hazardous condition is likely to be life-threatening.

PROHIBITED SIGNS (White Background/Black Text):

This type of sign or label specifies behaviour or actions which are not permitted. The symbol is depicted in a red circle with a slash through it.

MANDATORY SIGNS (White Background/Black Text):

This type of sign or label specifies an instruction that must be carried out.  The Symbol is depicted on a blue circular background.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION SIGNS (Green Background/White Text):

This type of sign or label indicate the location of or directions to emergency related facilities (exits, first aid, safety equipment, etc)

FIRE SIGNS (Red Background/White Text):

This type of sign or label indicate the location of fire alarms and fire fighting equipment.

GENERAL INFORMATION SIGNS (Blue Background/White Text or White Background/Black Text or Black Background/White Text):

This type of sign or label are not referred to in the Australian Standard, they are used to communicate information of a general nature.
